Medineering
From businessplan to exit in only five years. The product design phase for Medineering´s surgical assistant was just as focused and successful as the whole startup story.
The challenge
The Medineering Support System was a well thought-out system from the start, leaving little room for design gimmicks. A remaining challenge was the integration of tactile and visual interfaces which Medineering and TWID approached jointly.
The result
The product design takes up technical details such as the joint pattern in order to integrate further functions such as the LED strips.
TWID also helped to find manufacturers for the main interface: Large and soft buttons at every link-element of the arm. Pressing one of these buttons releases the structure, allowing to move the arm and bring it into the desired position. The buttons had to be designed taking into account haptic feedback, resistance of materials, assembly and maintenance.
Impact
Consistency is a key indicator for a successful product design. The product design of the Medineering robot was developed right after the founding phase. And it hasn´t changed since. The design is also adaptable. It uses a colour scheme that allows different branding approaches by other vendors.
